I am trying to find the correct title of a piece of music. It is usually played with an organ. It sounds evilish at the beginning, but mellows out at the end. I believe it is actually a Christian song and has been played in churches.

Back in the 70's, I think I heard it in either a "Phantom of the Opera" movie or "The Wax Museum" movie.

It might be referred to as "the mad organist".......

I am looking for a CD with some good female vocalist tracks on it to demonstrate the clarity of my stereo system.

I am looking for clarity and purity like Amy Lee (Evanescence) - "Lithium" and "Good Enough". Paul Oakenfold features a female vocalist on his Another World CD, the song is called Sanvean, but there is no artist information.

Charlotte Martin is also a good option. she has a not widely known song called your armor that she has a very clear voice in, but the songs not my favorite, so i don't know how much you;ll like it.

What should I do?

I went to go and see Phantom of the Opera live in the city and I saw a guy there. He was with his family, so we didn't talk, but we kept looking and smiling at each other. I don't know what his name is, but I want to find him or at least see him again. My friend told me that he was reminded of the song 'You're Beautiful' by James Blunt when I told him my story and said that I probably would never see this guy ever again. After all I don't even live in the city where the show was, but the town right next to it. What should I do? Give up, or wait and see?

Windows Media Player not working in several browsers?

I use Opera mainly, and Windows Media Player was fine until a few days ago. I was on eSnips trying to play a song, but when i pressed play (the triangle), it held for a few seconds and then it showed the play button again. No music played. So I tried Mozilla Firefox - same thing happened. Finally, I tried with Internet Explorer, and it was fine. Windows Media Player is fine offline, if it helps.

I've heard a lot of people talk about the Flying Dutchman dance which is done at weddings. There is a reference to it on Wikipedia and one website describes it as a dance which "was done with a man and two ladies, or a lady and two men, and involved the participants doing a 'do-si-do' with each other, while the music started slow and gradually got faster."

From what I gather it's a polka, not classical music as in the opera that is also titled "The Flying Dutchman".

I've seen "The Flying Dutchman" opera by R. Wagner live several times. In that opera (I'm going to sum up a few hours in one sentence), the woman falls in love with a cursed captain of a ghost ship who briefly gets to stop by on land every certain number of years (in order to find the true love that will save him.) But when the captain (due to a little misunderstanding) goes back out to sea without the woman, the woman throws herself off a cliff into the ocean in order to join him.

So I envision the bride standing on the banquet hall table and doing a swan dive into the guests who catch her and pass her around over the crowd, sort of like a mosh pit.

1 is a classic. 2 is really a band on it's last legs trying to cash in on their previous success. While it is definitely miles above Q2K and Tribe, it doesn't hold a candle to the original mind crime. Queensryce is a band that has lost their vision. I think what made them so great was the diversity between Geoff Tate and Chris Degarmo. Once Degarmo left, Tate was left to his own devices, which unfortunately has not been good for the band. They bring in Mike Stone, who is talented, but was a man on Mindcrime 2 that was just trying to ape Degarmo's style. There ya go.

Ok so Ive always loved to sing, always. I used to sing so much my mom would ask me to stop. I can sing quite high in my opinion, up there with christina aguilera, charlotte church and sarah brightman sometimes. I listened and sang to Maria Carey when I was younger, as well as Patsy Cline, Sarah McLachlan, Shania Twain and soo soo many more artists. I sing alot of different types of music, country, opera, christian, etc. All I have to do is listen to a song a few times and then I can sing it, matching the notes perfectly. Everyone tells me Im a great singer, but Ive never had voice lessons and I cant even read music. Is it possible that I've trained my voice myself, since I sing all the time, and have always since I was very young. Im 20 now btw.

I will give you a few tips to singing, but I can not stress enough to go see a classical voice teacher. Nothing can replace the value of seeing someone who specializes in what you want to do! If you go to your local college's music department there are voice students who would be more than willing to teach you for a nominal fee.

Here's a first voice mini-lesson for you! This is what I teach my students during the first few weeks!

1. Breathing. Make sure you are taking nice deep breaths. To check this, squat or plie during warm-ups. When you breathe in your low ab muscles should drop (due to lowering the center of gravity). Your belly and back will expand! Every breath should feel like that when you sing!

2. Singing posture. Make sure you are standing with your feet shoulder width apart, back/neck/head are aligned, and your chin is not sticking out. When men (and some women) sing high, they unknowingly stick their neck out to "reach" for the high notes. Make sure your head stays straight and your chin is parallel to the ground.

3. Do warm-ups that stretch your cords gradually. Start in your low range and work your way up. Make sure you are changing to your head voice when getting in the upper part of your range. You can stretch your vocal cords by pushing them by half-step higher every day you practice. Whatever you do, listen to your body, and if your throat feels strained, stop!

4. Drop your jaw! Do not sing horizontally (like you're smiling). It adds nasality to your tone. To check yourself put both hands to your face, one finger on the corners of your mouth in a resting position. When you sing (warm-ups or repertoire) do not let the corners of your mouth widen past your fingers!

When singing high, make sure you are flipping into your head voice. It will make your voice float and is less abuse on your chords than if you push up from the bottom of your voice. Come from the top to hit those high notes! Good luck!

Singing along with these other singers is great, but you've actually taught yourself to mimic. Your voice is your voice and for it to be a healthy voice you have to train it like a runner trains for a marathon. Unfortunately, you can't prepare to run 12 miles by watching other people run 20 miles. You have to stretch and work and build endurance. The vocal cords are a muscle and they have their own stretches and agility exercises that build their endurance. If you just wanna have some fun, sing along with these artists. I do it all the time, but I've also gone to school and worked on my voice, so that it's mine and I know how to use it when there's no one else singing but me. You need someone outside yourself to listen and guide you to be your best. To remind you that you are imitating the sound and color of Leontyne Price or Kim Burrell. To help you fall in love with your own sound and timbre of your own voice. If you want to become a performer it is a must that you find your voice and use it healthily. A coach helps you do that. Your audience is going to immediately compare you to someone or something else. But you strive for, "yeah, she sounds like such and such, but such and such isn't as {fill in the blank} as she is."

It really just depends what kind of movie it is, and what kind of fight scene it is, but I recommend Metallica for any fight scene. Specifically, you could use songs: St. Anger, Frantic, Harvester of Sorrow, Blackened, Whiskey in the Jar, Seek and Destroy, and The Four Horsemen to name a few. They all rock.

Has Pavarotti ever recorded a song from Carmen? I have never heard one and I have videos of most of his concerts. I know, from family background, that some Italians call Carmen 'that nasal opera', referring to its French origins and refuse to rate it as the great opera it is. In the special features portion of the DVD there are two deleted scenes. One takes place at the opera, the other is a bunch of scenes of Marie Antoinette. During the latter there is no dialogue, only this song playing over all the cuts.

I'm considering auditioning for an opera chorus in a week or two. I have plenty of experience as a choral alto (mainly church choirs). It's the New York City Opera, looking for adult African-American singers for a new opera called Margaret Garner, set in slavery times. They want auditioners to sing an Italian aria and an English-language aria or folk tune.

I could do the Shepherd Boy's Song from Act III of Tosca, but I want some more ideas. Thanks!

most of the young mezzos I have heard auditioning either bring the "Non so piu" from Marriage of Figaro, that was mentioned by another answerer, or " Smanie implacabile" from the opera Cosi Fan Tutte, also by Mozart. Also good:

" Che faro senza Euridice" from the opera " Orfeo e Euridice" by Gluck,

"Ombra mai fu" from the opera Xerxes, by Handel. (This one might surprise you, because in the States this is most often known as "Handel's Largo" and is played in church for weddings and such.)

The Scarlatti and other, earlier Italian arie antiche are not considered as audition material in the professional circuit, and modern casting has given the Shepherd's song back to a child in Tosca.

I am more familiar with coloratura soprano or lyric soprano parts, but this goes to a list of mezzo-soprano roles. Unfortunately I think that Itailian operas feature mostly higher aria parts.
Are you a mezzo or a contralto? Those are completely different "fachs" in operatic literature... also, you say you mainly sing in church choirs but are you a trained singer?... would need more information to be able to adequately answer your question.
Gi脿 il sole dal Gange by Alessandro Scarlatti. I sang this one my senior year in high school for solo and ensemble. Great contralto/mezzo-soprano song. But make sure you find the contralto version, not the soprano version.

Non so piu, and voi che sapete are from the Marriage of Figaro. The character Cherubino, is played by mezzo sopranos. You might find other "pants parts" or "trouser roles".
Stick with something standard, simple and something you do really well. It is better to go in with something brief and simple that (even if you think it might be elementary) kicks butt than to go in with a 7 minute long singer-with-horns aria and not hit it over the wall. So, I say, Voi Che Sapete or Non so piu or something along those lines. Think Mozart, Verdi, Handel...you want to nail it, whatever it is. So, go with something you've done for years (or years ago) and just sing well...do go for fireworks...

Is this a good idea?

So I'm 13, and finished my school year (7th grade) at a school I've been at since Kindergarten (K-8). And I will not be coming back next year because I'm changing schools. I am really attatched to the school I am leaving, and I have so many friends and I'm just going to miss them! So much! On the last day of school I cried! And at the award's ceremony, the graduating 8th grade girls class sang, "My Wish" by Rascal Flatts. When I listen to it and sing it, I can't help but cry all the time. I'm not even close to that grade. Just my grade! I just cried and I have tears down my cheek!

So my idea is, that next year when my class would have graduated at my old school, I should sing a song at the award's ceremony, or graduation.

I am known for my beautiful voice because I'm an Opera prodigy as my voice teacher says.

nah... sing it until ur voice worns out...
Well I can sing Christine's High E and even the F and G above that, but not all voices can reach that note...that's a good start if you can hit the high B minor. A normal range for a soprano is about the next note above that, the C. I wasn't always able to sing Christines high E and I even still have trouble with it because my voice has break around that note but I can hit above it fine. I would try and pratice with a piano, and SLOWLY work yourself up to the E, if possible. I bet you could do the C and Maybe D no problem with practice but that E is a very hard note to hit! If you feel strain then obviously don't keep trying becaause you will hurt your vocal chords and it sounds like you enjoy singing. I kept hitting notes on the piano and making my voice match it, slowly working till the E which wasn't hard for me but like I said, my voice is meant to go that high and beyond and some people just can't. I'm sure you have a lovely voice none the less and I hope that you hit that note!

If your very serious about singing, then a vocal teacher absolutely. They are professions and they know your range and your limits.
From what I've learned so far, it's possible and it takes a little practice. Don't force your voice to a level that you can't reach yet, you can easily damage it. I think it'll be helpful for breathing exercises and a lot of water...

Immaculate, unquestionable competence. If you posses and present this, you're on first base.

An exhibition piece and one I have always found intriguing, is the mechanical dolls(forget her name)aria, from the 1st Act of Offenbach's "Tales of Hoffman".

I would recommend you seriously consider this; it if well executed, will have a listener on the edge of their seat, expectantly waiting to see if the high notes are achieved.

Alberich's first sentence says it all. Since lyric soprano is by far the largest category of soprano voice, you have to show that you have something to offer that will capture interest. I tmay be that you have the facility to sing pianissimo in oyur high range, it may be that you have a remarkable messa di voce or a long breath.

Make sure that you pick something that will show off your most outstanding qualities. Art songs are wonderful, but rarely do they give you the opportunity to show what you have. If your interests are early music/20th century, I would use one of each to show how your voice adapts to fit those two. Make sure you have enough difference in compostional style ( not a hard thing to do) and key. Also one piece could move more than the other in terms of tempo. But be very sure that you feel vocally comfortable with your choices. It's no good picking something flashy if you are not at home with it.

I like Fantasy or action adventure novels. I am also 19 so it would prefer some more adult aimed books (but nothing too "sexually" explicit unless the story makes up foe it)

In short I prefer books with a fast moving plot and good character Development. I would prefer a fantasy or action adventure novel or series, but if you have to you can suggest books/series from other genres.
